Wela
Pohaku (Hot Stone Therapy)
The traditional and ancient Hawaiian art form of
hot stone therapy. Wela Pohaku which literally means “Hot
Stones” in motion, have been used in Hawai’i for hundreds
of years to address the many levels of healing necessary to help
restore balance in the mind, body and soul. Tree branches (lomi
stick) and sea shells were also used but the most sacred and most
popular are the Wela Pohaku, especially when use with reverence
to the stone spirits and in conjunction with lomilomi.
